Why would you have a seat here, you ask? How long it’s been there, I’m not sure. It’s a rugged old wooden bench that sits adjacent to the ONE Building where you can view the beautiful new state-of-the-art satellite center known as Experience Clemson. Of course, there are other seats with better landscapes, but this bench has meaning.

I’m a sucker for substance and throughout my 10+ years now in this city I’ve witnessed many changes in the Downtown Area and this bench has witnessed it all. From the gloomy days before the Downtown Area became a beacon for tourists, a top city to visit.

Some would come an have a seat, relax and take in the ambiance of what the city had to offer (mostly its people). I actually work in an office downtown, where I find myself taking a stroll almost daily around lunch just to get away from the daily grind. I’ve witnessed a lot of the new construction and felt like I grew along with the new developments.

Although many things have changed, this rugged wooden bench has been a staple to me because it’s lasted through the test of time. I’m a believer in keeping a tradition alive and as I walk past this bench on a daily basis I watch so many different people from musicians, artists, and tourists gravitate to it. Whether they’re taking pictures or just having a seat, it makes you feel like you belong.
