A twist on a hockey holiday classic is returning this season. The Greenville Swamp Rabbits will host the 2021 Bunny Toss, presented by Swamp Rabbit Moving, on Sat., Dec. 18 during their game vs. the Toledo Walleye.

Normally, fans are discouraged and even warned about the dangers + penalties associated with throwing things onto the ice. But for one night each season, the Swamp Rabbits are encouraging it.

Traditionally known as the Teddy Bear Toss, the Bunny Toss allows Swamp Rabbits fans to be a part of the game. After the first Swamp Rabbits goal, fans can throw stuffed animals onto the ice, a spectacle replicated by hundreds of hockey teams across North America and the world. The tradition was made famous by the Hershey Bears and the Calgary Hitmen.

Every stuffed animal launched over the glass and onto the ice is collected + donated to a local Upstate charity. They will be distributed to children in the area by members of the Swamp Rabbits with the help of Swamp Rabbit Moving trucks.

“Fans always want to feel like they are a part of the team and a part of the game,” says Swamp Rabbits President Todd Mackin. “This is that opportunity. Every fan can walk out of the arena after the game and say, ‘I made an impact; I was the first star.’”

A Swamp Rabbits hockey game, thousands of stuffed animals, and smiling children all around the Upstate — what more could you ask for? Tickets ($18+) for the 2021 Bunny Toss — and the rest of the season — are available online.*
