Fifty-eight percent of Greenville residents live within a half-mile of a park or community center. The city manages about three dozen public parks and many of them need some serious TLC (and we’re not talking about the 90s musical group).
A common denominator among many of the parks is the need for new restrooms and general repairs: Handrails, benches, and steps, as well as resurfacing tennis and basketball courts.
The city has budgeted $350,000 for neighborhood parks for the year but considering new playground equipment costs between $35,000 and $50,000, it isn’t going to cover all the demands. The money will likely be used to help maintain safety in some of the parks by improving or restoring railings, steps, and pathways.
