Flatiron Studios in the West Village celebrates its grand opening this Fri., April 1 at 6 p.m., just in time for MAC’s First Fridays Art Gallery Crawl. Explore Greenville’s galleries before making your way to Flatiron Studios to peep the newly-renovated space, featuring the studio’s personal collection of art and artist Ruth Ava Lyons’ collection in the Art & Light annex.
The historic Flatiron Building, located at 1211 Pendleton St., has been under renovation since 2020, but has a history that dates back to the late 1920s.
Formerly called the Triangle Building, the space has served different purposes through the years — a place for unionizing efforts among textile workers, a hub for sewing Red Cross garments during WWII, a daycare, and more recently a partial art studio.
The opening event benefits the Center for Educational Equity and will also feature live music by Jordan Howe, bites + drinks from West Village spots like The Anchorage + Mr. Crisp and Bar Margaret, and a silent auction.
