Let’s be honest, every year getting back into shape (after eating too many holiday cookies) is at the top of everyone’s New Year’s resolution list. The gyms fill with new members hoping to get fit and toned – at least for a month until Valentine’s Day rolls around. Once mid-February hits, memberships fade and only the true workout buffs tend to stick around all year. Here are a few ways to make sure you stick to that workout plan and are in the best shape when the weather starts to warm up again.

  1. Sign up for a triathlon/half marathon/5K
Jumping straight into a triathlon may be a little scary for some, but the Mountains to Main Festival created a new twist to the races this year. Plus, you have plenty of time to train. Those willing to take on the triathlon have until April 28, while runners that are not quite in triathlon training mode can run in the half marathon or 5K races that are taking place May 18.
  2. Join a workout class
Getting the motivation to go to the gym seems like a lot of work, so why not sign up for an actual workout class? Group fitness studios have been popping up all over the Upstate. A few of the newer workout crazes include CycleBar, Barre3, Soul Yoga, and Swamp Rabbit CrossFit.
  3. Take a ride or run on the Swamp Rabbit Trail
Not many places can say they have a 20-mile trail from one part of town to the other that is exclusively made for foot and bike traffic. Even if you are not too keen on running, there are a few bike shops downtown that let you rent out bikes for a few hours or even a full day. The best part is the trail goes up to Travelers Rest, so you can cool down at your favorite lunch spot before heading back to downtown Greenville!
  4. Take a hike
There are so many great hiking trails around the Upstate. Table Rock State Park seems to be a favorite and has some amazing views from the top. From expert to beginner, there is a hike for everyone.

Getting back into the fitness routine (and actually sticking with it) after the holidays can be tough. Hopefully these different ways to workout will give you the motivation you need to actually keep up with your resolution this year!
