You don’t have to be a bibliophile to use the library. The Greenville County Library System offers art exhibits, classes, video game contests, and more.

We love books, don’t get us wrong. But you don’t have to love reading to enjoy The Greenville County Library System (GCLS). Here are some unexpected library offerings.

Classes | Did you know the library offers free classes ranging from “Introduction to Smartphones” to “Native plants and pollinators?”

Events | Besides classes, GCLS offers events for the community like book bingo, trivia, and writers’ round tables. Pro tip: The blue classes are adult events, pink are youth services, and gray events are sold out.

Genealogy | Have you ever wondered about your family tree? GCLS has a Local History + Genealogy room (at Hughes Main Library) filled with maps, databases, study tables, and staff who can help you trace your lineage.

Museum + park passes | With your library card, you can check out passes to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, Roper Mountain Science Center, Upcountry History Museum, and SC State Parks.

More than books | You can also check out board games, electricity usage monitors, audiobook players, and seeds from the seed library.

Laptop lending | In need of a laptop for a few hours? You can borrow one for in-library use.

Meeting spaces | If you’re looking for a quiet spot to host your event, GCLS offers free meeting spaces. There is an equipment rental fee + the computer training room at Hughes Main has a cost.

Southern Author Fest | Each year, you can meet local + regional authors and listen to speakers at this free event hosted by GCLS.

Tax assistance | Get help filing via United Way’s VITA program. Taxpayers with a household income of $73,000 or less can file for free using United Way’s My Free Taxes.
