Get ready to move it, move it. Registration for YMCA of Greenville’s free Moveville Healthy Heart Spring Challenge is now open, with the challenge running Monday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, May 19.

What is Moveville?

Launched in 2023 by the YMCA of Greenville, Moveville is a community wide health initiative to help combat growing chronic health risks in Greenville County.

Moveville launches free seasonal challenges for all Greenville County residents who want to start taking steps to improve their health.

“Research shows that 80% of these chronic diseases can be prevented or reversed with exercising 30 minutes a day, five days a week, eating better and managing stress, all of which is the foundation of what Moveville is about,” said Scot Baddley, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville.

The benefits of movement

Studies show that exercise is essential for healthy cardiac function. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, physically active adults experience:

  • Improved lung function and better circulation.
  • Lower risk of heart attack, coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
  • Lower blood pressure and overall cholesterol than non-active people.
  • And more
