Here are the plans for a redevelopment of Conestee Mill

A long-awaited dam stabilization has unlocked plans for a mill-village-inspired redevelopment that would bring housing, commercial space, and new connectivity to Conestee Mill.

Developers want to bring new life to Conestee Mill with a multi-phased, mixed-use redevelopment of the 8.75-acre site. Plans call for:

  • Renovating the historic mill building on the river to house ~50 multi-family units
  • Building four residential units over ~8,000 sqft of commercial space in the existing Company Store building
  • Constructing two other multi-family buildings as part of Phase I
  • Building 120-140 more residential units in Phase II

Developers want one parcel annexed into the city, and the whole project will undergo the Historic Review Board process.

This is all possible following the recent stabilization of the nearby Lake Conestee Dam — a long-awaited fix that removed major environmental barriers to development. Developers say the project aims to activate the broader Conestee community and will feature a mill-village-inspired design.

The project will be presented at the Project Preview Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18. If all goes as planned, construction could begin in 2026.
