This year, three City Council member seats are up for grabs. One of the seats will be decided next week, the other two on Election Day, November 7.

Why? Next week (Tuesday, June 13), republicans David Sudduth and Wil Brasington will face off in the District 4 Republican primary, and since no Democrat filed to run against them, this will determine the whole caboodle for District 4.

A primary will not be held for the other two districts as only one Republican and Democratic candidate are running. Republican John DeWorken and Democrat Russell Stall will battle it out for the city’s at-large seat ,and Democrat Lillian B. Flemming will face Matt Cotner for the District 2 seat.
The breakdown
Greenville City Council consists of Mayor Knox White and six council members. The mayor + ✌️ council members are elected at-large (serving the whole city, not just a district), while the remaining four council members are elected for city districts 1 – 4. Together they constitute the legislative body (budgets, ordinances, resolutions etc.) of the city.

Although our office is located in District 2 (shoutout to the Village), I personally live in District 4. This will be my first time voting for a City Council member, so for all of my District 4 peeps, I’ll see you at the polls next Tuesday.

To the rest of you, we’ll see you in November.
