Zipbuds, a Charlotte company that has been makes earbuds since 2009, first reached out to Ryan Heil, a doctoral candidate, after the CEO discovered Heil’s social media and marketing research at Clemson.

“We had been designing wired earbuds since 2009, but I really wanted to go wireless. After talking with Ryan, I knew he would be able to help us map out that direction,” Zipbuds CEO Robin DeFay said.

Heil met his now-coworker, Asher Swinney (Dabo Swinney’s nephew + rising Clemson marketing senior) during an internship with the Tigers.

From then, the two spent months researching what people wanted in wireless earbuds, which focused on five main areas:

  • Comfort and fit
  • Durability
  • Sound quality
  • Battery Life
  • Style

Enter: “Zipbuds 26.” Earphones that are tough enough for athletes and hard workouts but look good enough to wear at work or walking to class.
