Roti Canai is a fluffy Malaysian pancake served with a chicken curry dip. I call it simply Chicken Gravy. It is a ridiculously good appetizer and one of the very best Roti is right here in Greenville at Yellow Ginger Asian Kitchen (on Poinsett Highway between Cherrydale and Furman).

The layered flatbread is crispy and flaky on the outside, perfectly chewy on the inside and blows its international cousins – the tortilla, pita and crepe – out of the water. It is savory and satisfying in all the right ways.

For $5.95 it makes a perfect meal all by itself, but try other Malaysian dishes at Yellow Ginger including a fantastic noodle bowl called Laska or the coconut rice dish, Nasi Lemak, a Malaysia favorite.
