By: Becky Hendrich, manager at Joe’s Place, which is where Greenville residents and visitors come together to Sip, Sit and Read. Located at 2 Williams Street in the Pettigru District of downtown, Joe’s Place offers a wide selection of rare and modern books, local art, coffees and pastries, unique wines and beer, food and much more.

Greenville is great, and we don’t know why you would ever leave.

But many of you are leaving. Well, for travel at least. According to the folks at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, the number of people flying in and out of the Upstate has increased for 16 months in a row.

And it is only going to increase with the recent announcement that Frontier Airlines is doubling its service to Denver. That is on top of numerous other additional flights announced in the past two years including Orlando, Las Vegas, Miami and Tampa.

So, how can you pass the time while flying the friendly skies? How about reading and finishing a book? We at Joe’s Place created a listed of books for you to read based on the number of pages someone can read in an hour and the average time of GSP flights.

Orlando:

  • My Sister The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
  • In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
  • The Orphan Choir by Sophie Hannah
  • Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Denver Flights:

  • Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
  • A Place For Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza
  • Everless by Sara Holland
  • Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

Miami Flights:

  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
  • We Were Eight Years In Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates
  • The Woman In The Window by A.J. Finn
  • Murder at the House of Rooster Happiness by David Casarett

Las Vegas Flights:

  • Soul Dreams by Wofford Lee Jones
  • Crazy Rich Asians AND China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan
  • Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
  • The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Tampa Flights:

  • Born A Crime by Trevor Noah
  • Dopesick by Beth Macy
  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
  • Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

So, instead of correcting the answers in the crossword and soduku in the in-flight magazine that the last flyer got wrong, pick up one of these books and getting some reading done during the flight.
