I would like you to meet Ernie “Zeke” Brewster. He is our “Radio,” like the movie starring Cuba Gooding.
Ernie graduated from Berea High School over twenty years ago from our special education program. He is a staple here at Berea High and if you don’t find him working at the local grocery store, Ingles, you will find him here. He is considered the manager for basketball, football, and baseball. He is at every practice and game supplying the team with water and equipment.
When he is not at work during the day you will find him in our front office greeting parents as they walk in and most times they recognize him from the grocery store.
His two most favorite things are food and his birthday. From the day school is back in session the first thing he talks about is his birthday being “right around the corner,” (December 17th). He looks forward to this day all year long. We have a birthday party for him in the library with cake and lots of gifts and invite the basketball players to celebrate with him. It is literally a daily conversation about how close it is to his birthday.
He often has catchphrases that he gets from commercials and uses them appropriately in daily situations. Like when a student is in trouble or a bad situation arises, he’ll say, “oh, oh, you got bad credit.”
The community loves Ernie “Zeke” Brewster and he is the face of Berea. I believe he is worth recognizing.
