A new mural honors Greenville legend Peabo Bryson

The colorful mural at The Commons near Unity Park honors the Grammy winning, R&B legend.

Did you know legendary R&B artist + two-time Grammy Award-winner Peabo Bryson is from Greenville? Soon, a new mural at The Commons will honor him, and it’s just around the corner from where he grew up.

Bryson attended JE Beck High School and worked on his grandfather’s farm in Mauldin. He says his mother brought him to concerts and shows when they were in town, including Sam Cooke, Little Richard, and Billie Holiday.

He went on to have a storied R&B career, earning two Grammys for his performances of “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” on Disney soundtracks.

Local artists Orlando Corona, Faith Hudgens, and RaAmen Stallings spoke with The Post and Courier Greenville about the mural, which they call a “legacy piece.” It will be complete this month.
