Earlier this week, Brent Toderian – thought-leader, city planner and urbanist based in Vancouver – tweeted this question: “If you had the power to ban just one thing from cities in order to make them MUCH better, OTHER THAN CARS (too easy), what would that one thing be?

And it went viral, getting 4.5K+ responses – causing it to trend on Twitter. Following his lead, we took to our own social media accounts to ask the same question (with a slight “more positive” spin on the verbiage).

So, GVL Citizens: If you had the power to change just one thing in Greenville in order to make it MUCH better, what would that one thing be? Here’s what some of you said:

“Put the Green back in Greenville, do more for recycling, keep/add green spaces all around Greenville, promote public transportation and green energy.” – Christine B.

“It would be cool to do a trash pick up almost every day, but for something different everyday. Plastics, paper, trash, branches, big hauls. Make it easy to recycle!– @wildatheart_lizzy

Solid plans for affordable housing. Investment in programs that help reduce poverty and crime. Public transportation.” – Gina K.

“The one thing I’d do would be more youth/community centers for underprivileged youth/low income neighborhoods.” – Crystal A.

“More public transportation going to/from the surrounding communities of Greenville! That would help with traffic so much!” – Victoria M.

“Close down Main Street for cars and make it pedestrian only.” – Kristin B.

Biking and pedestrian infrastructure is sorely lacking if you actually want to use those means to get around the city (not just an afternoon ride on the trail). Proper crosswalks, clean and accessible sidewalks, bike lanes, etc.” – @amescashin

“Fully utilize and restore abandoned buildings before tearing down trees to clear space for new development.” – Alex H.

Quit destroying the green space downtown! ENOUGH with all the condos/apts/buildings downtown.” – Carol K.

Nothing. I love Greenville!” – Jeff A.

“I’m stumped. I like the place a lot. We’ve got a great little city with lots of people who care about it. People still greet each other as though you might be friends or neighbors. What more could you ask for?– @philyanov
