What about Harrah’s Cherokee? Harrah’s is in Cherokee, N.C. (one of several locations, but the closest to Greenville), so this new casino will be a bit closer to our city than Harrah’s.

Who’s behind it? The Catawba Indian Nation submitted this application back in March, which has since been approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The application in full is 827 pages. If you really want to read the whole thing, click the link here. Otherwise, we’re gonna give you the rundown on the need-to-know.

How much will it cost to build? This project has a price tag of $273 million.

Amenities? Here are the details by the numbers:

195,000 sq. ft. of total space

75,000 sq. ft. for gaming space 🕹️

1,796 slot machines

54 table games

940 seats available at the proposed restaurants and bars 🍽️

Open 24 hours each day + 7 days per week

2,130 available parking spots between the surface-level lot + parking deck 🚗

When will it be finished? A grand opening is several years out, although an exact date has not been named.

If you’re a casino fan but don’t love the long drive to Harrah’s, then it looks like you’ve been dealt a winning hand. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress of the development.
