3-D isn’t just for printers

DYK: One in eight women will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer? And ~2,000 cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American men this year. That’s why breast health + screening is so important – not just in October, but all year round.

~85% of breast cancers occur in women without a family history of disease – and mammograms can show changes up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them.

It’s more than a simple snapshot: 3-D mammograms take multiple images to give radiologists a more accurate picture, reducing the likelihood of false negatives (like normal breast tissue concealing breast cancer) and false positives (like an abnormality that looks like breast cancer but really isn’t).

Just in time for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth: Greenville Health System’s Breast Health Center, accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, just added two exam rooms to increase access and availability for patients. Bonus: 3-D mammography is available at all GHS mammography locations around the Upstate.

For women over 50, skipping a mammogram could miss up to 30% of cancers. Click to find a GHS location near you where you can schedule your mammogram.
