The 2020 Charitable Giving Awards

We’re here to tell you about the annual Charitable Giving Awards event by the Community Foundation of Greenville + Community Journals. The Charitable Giving Awards, presented by Elliott Davis, recognizes individuals, businesses, nonprofits, etc., that provide outstanding service to the community.

Here are the awards presented, who won them, and a link to some awesome videos about why they earned their awards:

Visionary Leadership Award, presented by Elliott DavisCarl Sobocinski.

#GivingHighlights: Carl is the founder + president of Table 301 Restaurant Group. With his restaurant group, he’s been able to donate more than $2 million to the local community. With the nonprofit he created with Edwin McCain, he distributed grants worth $347,000 to local charities.

Ruth Nicholson Award, sponsored by Community Foundation of GreenvilleMarie Monroe.

#GivingHighlights: Monroe is a lawyer who just celebrated six years serving on the board of directors for the Community Foundation. She also works with Meals on Wheels, sits on the board of directors for the Greenville Humane Society, and has, in the past, been involved with The Chandler School.

Philanthropic Spirit Award, sponsored by Marsh & McLennan Agency – Bill Pelham.

#GivingHighlights: Bill is an architect who has supported the Camperdown Academy for 10+ years, including helping them create their new campus. He also aided the Fine Arts Center in creating “the first four-year high school architecture program in the country tied to a university.”

Education Spirit Award, sponsored by The Capital Corporation – OnTrack Greenville.

#GivingHighlights: OnTrack Greenville, utilized by five local middle schools, aims to keep students engaged in the classroom by creating a network of local resources. The goal is to keep students “on track.

Leadership in Arts Award, sponsored by SCCT Capital Campaign Cabinet – South Carolina Children’s Theatre.

#GivingHighlights: The SCCT is celebrating the opening of their brand new performance space + highlighting their success this summer despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthcare Transformation Award, sponsored by Prisma Health – Dr. Scott Sasser.

#GivingHighlights: Dr. Scott Sasser is the CEO of Prisma Health Medical Group and was previously the physician incident commander behind Prisma’s COVID-19 response.

Community Spirit Award, sponsored by IberiaBank/First Horizon – Greenville Free Medical Clinic.

#GivingHighlights: The clinic, est. 1987, offers everything from primary + preventative care to dental services and health education. The clinic is community funded and exists to serve those that make “too much money to qualify for Medicaid but too little to afford other coverage.”
