The City’s current long-range, citywide comprehensive plan, Plan-It Greenville, was adopted in 2009. The SC State Planning Enabling Act requires that this type of plan should be fully updated (read: rewritten) at least every ten years.

We asked the City’s Planning & Development Division, which will be managing this planning process for the next two years, for the deets on what’s going on + how to get involved.

Right now the City is collecting data + forming strategies for public engagement. (⬅️ Have any ideas for this? Let us know by replying to this email + we’ll share them.)

The second phase involves determining the appropriate policies + strategies to get Greenville to where the City (and its residents) want to be in 2040.

Why 2040? The City’s long-range plan will be used by elected officials, City staff, planning boards and commissions, and citizens to guide local development, policies and regulation, and capital improvement projects that define the quality of life in Greenville 20+ years from now.

Who funds this? Funding to create and maintain the plan generally comes from the municipal/county budget.

Who can get involved? Every resident, land or business owner, student, employee, and visitor to Greenville can become engaged in the planning process, and the City hopes to make the process widely accessible in order to achieve broad and meaningful participation.
