The race begins to fill SC’s vacant seat in House of Representatives

Today, the race for South Carolina’s vacant seat the U.S. House of Representatives begins.

The seat has been vacant since Mulvaney was confirmed as director of the Office of Management and Budget for the Trump administration. Seven Republicans have announced they will run for Mulvaney’s former seat in the 5th District. No democrats have declared a campaign.
Part of the qualifying procedure known as filing will begin at noon in the counties covered by the 5th District and will close on March 13. Those counties include: Cherokee, Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Newberry, Spartanburg, Sumter, Union and York.

Party primaries are scheduled for May 2. The general election is set for June 20.
