May seems like it’s far away right now but the Artisphere team is already preparing for the big event. After all, it takes time to sift through 1,163 artist applications for 2018 (a record high + 312% increase since the show started in 2005 👏🏼)

Here’s the breakdown:

  • There are 135 spaces available on Artists Row, so applicants have a one-in-eight chance of being accepted.
  • 133 of the applicants are from South Carolina artists; 82 are from the Upstate.
  • More than one-third of the applicants have never applied to the festival.
  • Out of 17 medium categories, painting oil/acrylic received the most applications – 160 artists.

24 artists applied for the Emerging Festival Artist Scholarship program, which includes professional photography of their display during the show as well as a mentoring workshop from seasoned Artisphere artists.

The jury panel will review applications on Nov. 4 + 5 then notify the top 135 artists of their acceptance in December. Participating artists will be announced to the public in early 2018.

The 2018 Artisphere is May 11-13 in downtown Greenville.
