Stronger in sports + school

Center for Educational Equity

Provided by Greenville Journal

The Center for Educational Equity on Pendleton St. started as an after school program for athletic kids, but the positive impact of the program quickly led CEE to begin accepting all students. Through the discipline + work ethic they learn through sports, young students are able to find success academically, too.

Coach Shakir Robinson (a military veteran + professional boxer) says 30-40 kids attend the program, which involves 7 weeks of academic and fitness drills. 💪 The CEE is a 501c3 nonprofit that received funding to *seriously* renovate a building in West Greenville (that now features a mural by GVL artist/former Furman professor David Gerhard).

Robinson says that their goal is to “give kids opportunities and equipment and experiences that they wouldn’t ordinarily have access to” and show kids what they’re capable of. It’s less about learning your favorite subject or sport + more focused on pushing beyond your boundaries to excel in anything.

The CEE is doing its part to build up Greenville from the community level, starting with the kids in its own backyard. 🏈
