Last month, we told you that City Council was looking for a raise; it’s been nearly 24 years since their salaries have changed and now, the council is just a meeting away from seeing a $4,000 pay raise effective this December.

Monday, City Council met and gave initial approval to a new salary of $15,000 for council members and $24,000 for the Mayor’s position. Currently our City Council salary is the lowest among S.C. cities with more than 40,000 people, making $11,772.80 and $19,074 respectively.

They will meet again on Oct. 23 for a final vote.
