Have you heard of the S.C. Technology + Aviation Center? The SCTAC houses manufacturing, distribution + aviation facilities and acts as a maintenance + modification center for aircraft in need of repairs or inspections.

The center celebrated their 10th anniversary last year, and thus recently reflected on all of their achievements from the last decade. We put together a short + sweet summary of some facts, figures, and highlights.

  • Originally established in 1964 as the Donaldson Center Industrial Airpark. In 2008, it was rebranded as the SCTAC.
  • The center occupies 2,600 acres (see it here) and is home to 118 aviation + tech companies, including:
    • 3M
    • Michelin
    • Lockheed Martin
    • International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC)

    • Funding of the center is done 100% through business activities (lease revenues, track rental, etc.).
  • Supports over 6,800 jobs.
  • 1.93 billion – the total economic impact the center has on S.C.
  • Focuses on four programs of work, including:
    • Property management
    • Donaldson Field
    • Economic development
    • ITIC (International Transportation Innovation Center)
      • (Check out this video of a new mobility solution they are testing, The 30A Mobility Project, they are testing her)

Here are some of their ten year highlights:

  • Received renewal of Lockheed Martin lease with the state providing $3 million for leasehold upgrades. (2008)
  • Completed plans with the S.C. Army National Guard for the aviation center of excellence. (2009)
  • A record number of developments announced in 2011:

  • ITIC officially opened. (2013)

The center is an important part of Greenville’s economic development + we expect to see even more great things over the next decade.
