Revitalizing the Poinsett District

The stretch of Poinsett Highway between Greenville city limits and Cherrydale shopping center could really be considered the gateway into Greenville. In between Greenville and Furman, there are a bunch of run-down buildings until the city comes into view. But that’s going to change.

Greenville County is paying for a $2.5 million project to improve streets: widening sidewalks, adding decorative lights and landscaping. In the middle of this proposed Poinsett District is a 4-acre piece of property where Piedmont Shirt Co. used to be called “The Forge” that has been cleared and is ready for development.

Greenville Revitalization Corp., part of Greenville County Redevelopment Authority, sent information about the property to 45 developers from the Southeast in an effort to create a signature project that would work to hopefully redefine the area.
