In November of last year, Centennial American Properties was seeking approval to build a 4-story “modern” office building on the edges of the Reedy River at 55 Camperdown. The building, which would affect the view of the Reedy River in downtown, was a point of contention.

GVLtoday ran a survey, and 45.7% of you said the building should be moved away from the river. 1,772 signatures were signed in opposition of the build via a petition from the Friends of the Reedy River. Eventually, the city approved a letter of intent to purchase the property.

Monday night, the Greenville City Council gave initial approval for the $4 million dollar purchase of the .93 acre property on the banks of the Reedy River.

Where’s the money coming from?

  • Private donors have contributed $1.15 million

  • The Carolina Foothills Garden Club has donated $900,000

  • Friends of the Red Cross have given $250,000.

The rest of the of funds will come from the City’s economic development fund and a final reading for the purchase will be held on July 24th.
