The “Super Bowl of Bass Fishing” — the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic presented by Under Armour — is reeling its way back to Greenville in 2027, with anglers casting for glory on Lake Hartwell from March 19 to March 21.

We’re breaking down the impact of this announcement by the numbers:
  • 5 | The number of times the tournament will have landed here after the 2027 event takes place — a record-setting return that cements Hartwell as a true big catch in Classic history. Previous visits came in 2008, 2015, 2018, and 2022.
  • 154,932 | The estimated number of fans hooked on the Bassmaster Classic in 2022 — one of the largest turnouts ever.
  • $25.5 million | The total economic impact of the 2022 event — did you know events like these lower your tax bill?
Additional details — including takeoff sites, weigh-ins, and fan events — will surface closer to tournament time.

News Notes

Outdoors

A new paved “Zoo Trail” could connect Cleveland Park to downtown by way of an old railbed behind the Greenville Zoo. The city requested design proposals this month, marking a possible next step for the long-discussed project, which could eventually link to the Swamp Rabbit Trail and expand Greenville’s trail network. (The Post and Courier Greenville)

Civic

Greenville City Council approved $3 million to kick off the long-planned City Hall renovation. The funding will cover design and engineering, with plans expected this spring. Construction on the 53-year-old Main Street building is slated to begin in early 2027 and take about 18 months. (Greenville Journal)

Development

We have a Baby Bi-Lo update. Plans call for an $18.4 million overhaul of the former North Main Bi-Lo into Class A commercial space called N. Main. Greenville City Council reviewed an abandoned-building designation that would unlock tax credits for the project with a vote expected March 9. (Greenville Journal)

Real Estate

This downtown condo features soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls, arched brick columns, and oversized windows, with historic charm inside The Davenport. The 1,208-sqft space may only boast one bedroom and two bathrooms, but it’s right at the corner of Church and Washington, and you can’t beat that location.

Travel

Two new nonstop routes are taking off from GSP. Breeze Airways will launch flights to Cincinnati starting July 3 and Fort Lauderdale starting July 2, with limited-time $49 one-way fares available through Monday, March 2.

Legacy

Civil rights leader and Greenville native Rev. Jesse Jackson will lie in state at the South Carolina Statehouse on Monday, March 2. Gov. Henry McMaster also ordered flags lowered to half-staff that day to honor Jackson, who died Feb. 17 at age 84.

From Thursday, April 16 to Saturday, April 18, your favorite restaurants will host lunches, dinners, and hands-on classrooms, all leading up to the annual Roast & Toast oyster roast on Sunday, April 19 for euphoria’s annual Spring Fest.

I’ve lost count of the euphoria events I’ve attended, so consider me an expert to help you decide where to go.

If you’re looking for an experience...

Vine & Dandy is calling your name. Escape to Sassafrass Flower Farm to handpick your own bouquet and enjoy an all-female lineup of chefs.

By the Starlight: 21 Years in the Making is for you. Experience a 21-course tasting menu from Chef Nico Abello, Chef Diego Campos Vargas, and Chef Sam Hart of Counter in Charlotte (which received a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star) in the newly unveiled wine cellar at CAMP.

If you’re looking for a good time...

Forever 21 is the lunch for you. I’ve been to more euphoria events at Society than anywhere else, and I keep going back for more because of how much fun I have.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Danielle

I love that Greenville lands so many iconic sporting events. In addition to celebrating this announcement, we’re gearing up for the SEC Women’s Tournament and March Madness next month. Plus, the Greenville Cycling Classic in April. I’m also looking forward to the US Bowling Congress in 2028.

I’ll be honest though, I think the US Curling Championships, happening right now in Charlotte (hey, CLTtoday), is my new dream event to experience in Greenville. After learning to curl last week, I drove up Monday night to cheer on Olympic gold medalists Team Shuster for a come-from-behind win, and it was electric.
