What does geopsychology say about a city’s personality?

Does where we live have any bearing on our personalities? A growing field of psychological research called geopsychology says “yes.”
According to geopsychology, those from Greenville might be more introverted than their friends across the state in, say, Charleston, SC. And while you may have heard about that good ol’ southern charm, now there may be a form of scientific proof to back it up.
What is it?
ResearchGate defines geopsychology as “the relationship between the complex matrix of static and time-varying geophysical and geochemical variables within a locality and human behavior.”
In other words, there’s a correlation between one’s geophysical space and one’s mind. In particular, research on the “Big Five” traits — conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, openness, and extroversion — has led researchers to create a set of personality maps for the US.
Conscientiousness
Here in Greenville, we tend to be more conscientious. As an efficient, organized group, it’s no surprise that we have so many thriving and exciting industries.
Agreeableness
According to the map, Greenville is full of compassionate, friendly folk, and we can’t help but agree. New to town? As your friendly local newsletter, allow us to present you with our how-to for new residents.
Neuroticism
As a city of more emotionally stable residents, Greenvillians tend to experience fewer negative emotions. Maybe it’s that our weather tends to be quite nice, or maybe it’s just that we live in the best city around.
Openness
In Greenville, we may be a bit more careful when making decisions, and perhaps more stubborn. Maybe that’s why we won’t back down when telling people that GVLtoday is the best way to learn about our city.
Extroversion
As a more introverted city, those of us here in Greenville sometimes prefer quieter, solo activities. We’ve got your back: Check out our guides to hiking trails, local authors, and parks.

Why your fridge needs a deep clean (and who can do it for you)

We’ve all been guilty of it — neglecting to clean out our fridge. You’ve come to the right place if it’s been a while since the last deep clean. This task helps keep odors at bay and reduces clutter.
Start by purging expired condiments, withered produce, and moldy leftovers, then remove all the contents of your fridge. Wipe down any bottles and jars. Hint: Organization is key — sort all items into categories such as dairy, protein, snacks, fruits, and veggies.
Next, give all shelves and drawers a good scrub in the sink. Pro tip: Dawn dish soap is great for stubborn stains that won’t budge.
As you replace items in your fridge, be honest about which ones you’ll actually use + remove any clutter.
P.S. The experts at Two Maids of Greenville have you covered for all your home cleaning needs — they’ll even handle your fridge for you.

Introducing Greenville Technical College’s new look
Out of growth and excellence in program offerings + economic development comes Greenville Technical College’s new rebrand. | Photo provided by Greenville Technical College
You may have already noticed that Greenville Technical College looks different. That’s because the college recently rebranded to reflect its progress — including transformed buildings, campuses, infrastructure, education, and opportunities — over the past 60+ years.
“As we stand at the crossroads between proud past and limitless future, we want our brand to reflect the dynamic and growing organization we have become,” President Keith Miller said.
Greenville Technical College’s new look was inspired by their key college attributes:
An innovative education that serves as a smart investment
Practical learning that leads directly to a job
A heritage of meeting community needs
Additionally, the brand was designed to compliment these new facilities focused on future workforce needs:
I appreciate all the great feedback about GVL Connections earlier this week. I’m glad you all loved it as much as I did. If you’re also a New York Times gamer, in case you missed it, there’s a new game called Strands that I’ve been loving.
