Who will come out on top? | Graphic by GVLtoday
With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments just around the corner, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a faceoff of our own.

This year, we asked you to share your favorite pizza in Greenville. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator we have the official lineup for our bracket.

Who’s in the running

Going head-to-head in the first round are:
  • Sidewall and Belladina’s | The local chain takes on the downtown pizza joint.
  • Myles’ and Parcheggio | The family-run joint on Pleasantburg takes on the online-only pick up spot.
  • Pangaea and Todaro | The fan-favorite brewery that slings pies takes on the pizza spot with bottomless lunch.
  • Coastal Crust and The Slice | The Village joint takes on the Simpsonville New York-style spot.
How it works

Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Greenville’s best slice. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the pizza place with more votes moves on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in an upcoming newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.

How to participate

Vote for the pizza place you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.

🌷 How to up your curb appeal this spring

Presented by Reedy River Water Quality Group

Apply fertilizers sparingly, and if you live on a waterway, leave an unmown strip along the streambank. | Photo provided by The Reedy River Water Quality Group
Spring is right around the corner (14 days away to be exact, not that we’re counting), and with the new season often comes a renewed urge to flex your green thumb.

But improper fertilizer application can be problematic for surrounding waterways — and for you. Accidental exposure, inhalation, or ingestion, by a person (or pet) can be harmful to your health and your wallet.

Allowing fertilizer to enter a waterway or storm drain raises the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus, which can cause toxic aquatic plant growth that may harm or kill other aquatic life.

Here’s how to make your yard the talk of the town while helping preserve our local waterways:
  1. Closely follow the instructions, including how much fertilizer you should use and the safety precautions.
  2. Only allow fertilizer to touch areas of the yard that need treatment — never on paved surfaces or near storm drains.
  3. Don’t water immediately after you fertilize, and don’t fertilize if there is a rainstorm in the forecast.
Why maintaining buffer zones matters

Gamecock Nation, Greenville style

Are you one of the 28,000 Gamecock alumni who call GVL home? | Photo provided by the University of South Carolina
Any Gamecocks out there?

If you studied at the University of South Carolina, you might sometimes feel like you’re alone in the Upstate. After all, there is another well known higher-ed institution 45 minutes down the road.

But take a look around, and you’ll see that Gamecocks are everywhere:
  • Longtime Greenville Mayor Knox White earned his law degree at USC.
  • Miss South Carolina and Upstate native Jada Samuel is a USC alumna.
  • Former Gamecock and Major League Baseball pitcher Michael Roth makes his home in the Upstate.
And there are many more.

In fact, the Greenville area is home to more than 28,000 alumni — making it the top destination for USC graduates after Columbia, South Carolina.

So, when the carloads of Gamecocks start arriving for the SEC women’s basketball tournament, just know that they’re not just bringing Gamecock Nation to Greenville — they’re joining the Carolina fans who are already here.
