While we’re still working to learn when and where the pop-up will appear in our city, we know it will be in Raleigh later this month.
The shops
Made up of 30 shipping containers, the pop-up will feature a mix of high-end fashion stores including:
Tiffany & Co.
James Perse
Frette
Balmain
Addict
Assouline
Bonpoint
Santa Maria Novella
The vibe
The space will embrace the nearly 60-year-old brand’s Miami roots by bringing in planters filled with lush greenery, koi ponds, and fountains. Plus, the setting will showcase Bal Harbour Shops’ signature palm tree motif.
The food
A restaurant concept designed for the pop-up called The Whitman will bring Latin-inspired flavors and comforting classics to your shopping experience. Named after Stanley Whitman — who opened the Bal Harbor Shops in Miami — the concept promises to “bring the iconic dining experience of Bal Harbour Shops to life.”
The indoor-outdoor restaurant is described as ample, breezy, and seamless with a palm-framed courtyard + an al fresco environment.

Greenville’s newest food trail celebrates Eugenia Duke, Duke’s Mayo, and its history
Before it was the Wyche Pavilion, the Sauer Building was the home of Duke’s Mayo. | Photo via the Greenville County Library System
Duke’s Mayo was started by one of the earliest female entrepreneurs, Eugenia Duke, in 1917, when the US had just entered World War I. Eugenia — and her daughter Martha — began making sandwiches for soldiers stationed at Camp Sevier. In 1919, she sold 10,000+ sandwiches in one day and eventually began supplying her food to local stores and textile mills.
Mission Mayo
To begin your self-guided tour, print the guide with 20 stops across the Upstate featuring six snacks and 14 entrees where the star of the dish is — you guessed it — Duke’s Mayo (the only correct mayo option, if we’re being honest). Along your mayo mission, there are four bonus historic stops to learn more about the Duke behind Duke’s Mayo.
Asked
How much did Eugenia Duke make from each sandwich sold in 1917?
I love Sum Barsiu mai-ch and I can’t wait to celebrate its owner Khailing Neoh this weekend at the premiere of “Great Wall.” The documentary explores three generations of Khailing’s family, which immigrated to America from Eastern Asia in the early 1980s, and how her journey led to the dim sum hot spot.
