Lettuce have a garden party

Turnip the beet.
Welp, it’s Friday; and what better way to kick off the weekend than by giving all of you a honey-do list, for your lawn and garden.

At this point, you’re either super psyched, or bummed you now have yard work this weekend when you’d rather be drinking beer on a patio at a local brewery. However, considering the only male in the group was chosen to write on this topic, maybe we can crack open a beer, and make our lawns look like Wrigley on opening day at the same time (cool? cool).

If the past few weeks have been any indication, we’re in for a scorcher this summer. You will need to take the type of flowers you plant, where you plant them, and your soil composition into consideration before you get started.

Clemson knows best: Listen, I’m no expert, but these guys will tell you everything you need to know about your soil. Just scoop up some dirt from your yard, ship it (or drop it) off, and voila.

Weed out the bad guys: It’s important you start with a clean slate this spring. You’re going to get dirty, but it’s a menial task that may even relieve stress.

Pre-emergent & fertilizer is 🔑 this time of year: Use pre-emergent prior to weed germination in your yard, and make sure you use the right fertilizer, based on that soil test you got from Clemson.

Get to know your yard: Study your yard and understand what areas get the most light and shade. You’ll need to know which plants do best in both situations. You can also check out Greenville’s *hardiness zone here (yeah, I didn’t know what it was either…).

Don’t have a yard? Here’s a whole heap of tips to start and care for your potted plant collection.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the low-maintenance option (queue the 😒 from my girlfriend); but hey, less time in the yard means more time supporting my local breweries
