Yesterday, Greenville Health System officially announced its partnership with Palmetto Health (Columbia) to become the largest health care provider in the state; all that’s left is interstellar domination. Just kidding, but this is really big news. These two health systems combined will be able to see up to 1.2M patients per year, which will equate to about a $3.9 billion (with a B) net revenue projection.

If the “merger of equals” is approved, the soon-to-be largest health system in the state will be made up of 13 hospitals, employ 2,800 physicians, 28,000 other staff, potentially save $120M in health care costs and will become one of the 50 largest health systems in the U.S.

The group hopes to have the merger complete by the end of the calendar year at which time a new name for the combined health system will be decided on.
