Greenville City Councilman Russell Stall is floating the idea of placing fees on plastic bags, to prevent the bags from floating in the city’s waterways. Our readers made some very strong points in the comments section for both sides of the topic.

Reader Wendy H. suggested: “Perhaps a multi-pronged approach would work? Reward positive behavior – give consumers a credit of 5 cents for each bag they bring? Charge those who don’t…. If the “government” collects the fee, be transparent about how much is collected and where it is going. Set goals. Make it fun!”
