Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that there is conflict-a-brewin’ when it comes to American health insurance. This time, it comes in the form of a new Republican-led Senate bill.

The proposed bill is 142 pages and can be read right here. But, who has time for that? Here is the Sparknotes version:

The new bill would -

  • End the mandate that most Americans have to have health insurance

  • Create a tax credit system to help those who do

  • Give States the ability to drop benefits required now, like maternity care, emergency service, and mental health treatment

  • Would lower the income limit for receiving subsidies

  • Would phase out the extra money that the federal government has provided to states as an incentive to expand eligibility for Medicaid

  • Provide $50 billion to help stabilize insurance markets and hold down premiums from 2018 through 2021
