The Great Lawn, Sheep Meadow, Strawberry Fields, and McGowan’s Pass are all subsections of NYC’s iconic Central Park.

As the city prepares for the 2018 groundbreaking of the 20+ acre City Park in West Greenville (along the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail, by the Kroc Center, where the Public Works complex currently is)we can’t help but think about what the subsections of the park would (+ could be) be called.

Councilwoman Amy Doyle said City Park could be like Central Park, with separate identities all within the larger City Park.

The land where City Park will be built is currently the home of two smaller parks:

  • Mayberry, which was created for the city’s African-American population during the Jim Crow era.”
  • Meadowbrook, the home of the Greenville Spinners baseball team until 1972.” - Greenville Journal

What should the sections of the park be named? Well, it’s up to the city + city council. But, they’re welcoming public input, and we’re making it easy for you to contribute.

We asked on Instagram + Facebook what you think the name should be and you gave us some great suggestions. Keep ‘em coming(and upvote your favorites on Facebook) + we’ll pass along the top suggestions while keeping you updated along the way.

So far, 9 of you said to keep Meadowbrook + 7 of you said to keep Mayberry.
