$$$ for much needed emergency radios

WYFF4

The radio system that is being used for emergency agencies (police and firefighters) will be obsolete in 2018, and upgrading the outdated system will be $2.7 million a year.

Last night, the county council voted to approve an ordinance to raise property taxes and license tag registration in order to pay for this upgrade. The official name? Public Safety Telecommunication and Road Maintenance Fees.

The fee is an increase of $15 a year for property taxes which will go towards the radio costs and a $10 license plate sticker increase which would go toward road maintenance.
