The partnership between Greenville Health System and Palmetto Health is one of the 50 largest hospital systems in the nation + covers half our state. But their recent plan to consolidate $1.5 billion in debt was blocked by the Greenville County Council.

GHS said refinancing could have saved $80-$100 million, but some were concerned that most of the debt between the two hospitals came from outside of Greenville County – meaning Greenville County residents could have been stuck with higher bills.

The newly combined health company will now meet with the company board to discuss other options.
