El Thrifty describes itself as a Mexican cantina and social club, which is kinda magical and perfectly apt. It sits right on the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail near the Kroc Center, if you need a reference.

It’s a big, big space with lots of seating options – both inside and out. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, which means you can order this superstar starter anytime: the ceviche, which according to Robert Berry (one of El Thrifty’s owners and chef/restaurateur behind some of our fav CHS concepts) will shift with the seasons.

The opening menu version is shrimp/crab and is deliciously savory with the perfect amount of slow heat that builds but doesn’t blow. The shrimp are massive and the plate is garnished with lime and saltine crackers, echoing a Mexico City experience. Wash it down with Mezcal cocktail (DYK: Walker Pickering from Nose Dive is now behind the bar at El Thrifty?) and call yourself happy.

I really love this place to stay and hang out. It’s a *game* changer for GVL.
