Beach vacay? Don’t miss out on iconic Bowens Island

Bowens Island is everything you want in a #BucketDish: an obscure location, down a dirt road, hugging the Intracoastal estuary with perfectly fried seafood.

The restaurant is really just a big screen porch with some covered decking. It sits just east of James Island at the beginning of Folly Beach. If you go, plan to eat early if you don’t want to stand in a significant (but worthwhile) line.

The fried shrimp may be my favorite anywhere and there’s plenty of local beer to keep the aficionados in your group happy. Don’t miss out on trying both the cocktail and the tartar sauce over on the self-serve counter. Fried plates are plenty enough to share or simply pig out on.

FYI- this is also where you can push out on kayaks or take a guided tour.
