Another assault weapon ban was upheld Tuesday, in a federal appeals court in Maryland. This ban limits the ownership of 45 assault weapons and a 10-round limit on gun magazines.
It seems that some members of the community, here in the Upstate may be torn on the subject. On one side of the fence (outdoor retailers and gun ranges, such as Luthi’s and Sharpshooters) feel that the ban takes away from our 2nd amendment right to bear arms, and that the word “assault” is unjustly used to describe these weapons.
The other side of the fence (U.S. Circuit of Appeals) feels that “weapons of war” are not protected by the Second Amendment. This ruling stems from the Fireman Safety Act of 2013 which was created after the Sandy Hook shooting.
States with a ban on assault weapons currently include: California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts and New Jersey, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Minnesota and Virginia also regulate assault weapons.
