A+ for A-Taxis

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has granted $4 million to Greenville County to buy self-driving taxis as part of the FHWA’s Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment program. This program “funds cutting-edge technologies that are ready to be deployed to enhance existing traffic capacity for commuters and businesses.”

The idea for Greenville’s automated taxis, known as A-Taxis, is to provide transportation for residents who are unable to drive themselves due to impairments or lack of access to vehicles. The plan is to shuttle people to and from employment centers.
