Greenville County Rezoning

Provided by Google Maps

A portion of Woodruff Road and Highway 14 (near Graceland Cemetery) is nearly set for rezoning after a second reading and 10-2 vote by Greenville County Council. The area, currently zoned as a residential area, would become commercially zoned if approved by council members, and allow developers to initiate their plan for a new grocery store and other retail space (a piece of land that’s been debated 5 times before). However, the rezoning is not going unnoticed by closeby residents who have stopped commercial development of this area in the past (like in 2015).

On one 👋 , residents want to keep the area residential as to not increase traffic with more commercial developments, such as a Sprouts grocery store that the property owner is pushing for.

On the other 👋 , County Councilman, Fred Payne feels that development of this area is necessary to keep up with the inevitable growth in that part of Greenville County.

The third and final reading on the rezoning will be held on July 18th. If you’ve been on this side of town, what are your thoughts on the possible development?
