3 developers have a shot at redeveloping 38 acres

Greenville County started talking about turning County Square over for redevelopment more than a decade ago but never came to a conclusion. Six developers submitted proposals and three have been scratched – the remaining three teams are still a mystery.

Yesterday, County Council members met to discuss and decide which of three developers to start negotiating with. The council members’ voted to start negotiations with “developer C”. If things don’t work out with developer C, they agreed to move to developer B then to developer A if negotiations with developer B were not successful.

Why so sneaky? Officials said they are allowed to maintain secrecy under the Freedom of Information Act because they are involved with negotiations over a contract. They also said the county is in no rush to conclude negotiations on this development deal. The heart wants what it wants…
