City Editor Kyle here. 👋 I love to hit the trail with my bike for a quick workout, but with these winter temps, I’m breaking more of a shiver, not a sweat.
I brought my workout indoors by taking a cycling class at the YMCA of Greenville. Keep reading to learn more about how to work up a sweat while having fun + how you can Try This.
What we tried (with pricing):
I took a one-hour cycle class with Sadie R. at Caine Halter Family YMCA. All of the YMCA of Greenville locations offer cycling, along with a variety of wellness programs. If group exercise isn’t for you, the encouragement + expertise of a nationally certified Y personal trainer can help — whether that’s in-person or virtual.
With a Y membership, group exercise classes (plus some other wellness programs) are unlimited. Membership rates + joining fees vary across each location and type of membership (think: household, single adult, teen, or senior).
While you don’t need to have any experience to take a cycle class at the Y (Sadie coached us every step of the way), be sure to bring a water bottle + sweat towel, and wear leggings or lined shorts. Your go-to sneakers are perfect, as you won’t need special shoes for the Y’s bikes.
What we’re still talking about:
I loved the energy of this class — from the upbeat music to the party lights. While it’s been a while since I’ve taken a cycle class (or a group exercise class, for that matter), I was able to go at my own pace + got a great workout. No matter what exercise you like or level you’re at, the Y has something for you.
