Some graduate students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research just solved all our in-store shopping problems. Meet the Smart Shopping Companion Robot, which was unveiled at ACCelerate: ACC Smithsonian Creativity and Innovation Festival in Washington, D.C. – one of three Clemson projects selected for the festival. 👏🏽

The robot looks + acts like a smaller version of a shopping cart (or buggy as we’ve heard in the South). It has been designed to follow around the user by using its three ultrasonic sensors to track movement, which is ideal for people with limited mobility. It can carry anything from a purse in a grocery store to luggage in an airport or deliver parts in a factory.

The team is currently working on a larger version of the robot that features a Bluetooth receptor, which would allow users to call it to their location.
