This week may be all about March Madness, but Opening Day is just around the corner — April 2, to be exact. The Greenville Drive has some new home run additions for the 2026 season.

New Shortstop Self-Serve Market

There’s a new concession spot, and it’s grab-and-go. Right behind home plate (in the former Subway stand), you’ll find hot and cold ballpark favorites and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

New ballpark chef

Executive Chef Austyn McGroarty is “transforming the ballpark’s culinary identity” this season with:
  • Chicken wings at the Fowl Pole
  • Philly cheesesteaks and meatball subs in the 500 Club
  • Vegan nachos at the 7th Inning and Splendid Splinter locations
  • A “Hot Dog of the Homestand” — themed for each opponent
Plus, new ice cream flavors are coming to Sweet Caroline’s — catch me first in line to try the cherry vanilla.

Quoted

“If (Greenville-Pickens Speedway) can survive, the (CARS Tour) will be first in line to return, and I’ll be the first entry.” That’s what Dale Earnhardt Jr. Tweeted last week, after members of the Pickens County Planning Commission denied developers’ plans to destroy the speedway. We’d snag tickets to see that. (WYFF 4)

Number

$7.15 million. That’s how much Fountain Inn City Council approved a bond for to upgrade its natural gas system. Plans include replacing the 1954 City Gate, installing three miles of high-pressure pipeline, and expanding service to new neighborhoods. Final approval is scheduled for April 9. (Greenville Journal)

Development

A proposed 1,400-home development near Epps and Scuffletown roads is on hold after Timberland Holding Co. withdrew its annexation and rezoning request. The “Ottaray” project would have spanned more than 820 acres and centered around an existing lake and open space system. (Greenville Journal)

Real Estate

Is Overbrook calling your name? This cozy three-bed, two-bath home has the perfect rocking-chair front porch (and two side porches), two fireplaces, and other character throughout. How would you use the flex space that’s currently a playroom?

Closed

The On the Border restaurant off the Pelham Road exit on I-85 has permanently closed. The Greenville location was the chain’s only in South Carolina. (WYFF 4)

Biz

McMillan Pazdan Smith acquired MCA Architecture to strengthen its industrial and advanced manufacturing practice. MCA — founded in 1976 — has worked on projects across 11 states, including facilities for Boeing, Dominion Energy, and Nexans. (Upstate Business Journal)

Making history through entertainment

As we continue our Women’s History Month series spotlighting women making history in Greenville today, I loved seeing Executive Director of the Greenville Symphony Jessica Satava nominate Beth Paul — women supporting women.

Paul is the General Manager of Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Satava noted Paul’s commitment to community, inclusion, and service through entertainment and the arts, but we’d be remiss not to mention how she is a driving force who makes weeks like this one — with March Madness in town on the heels of a record SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament — possible, having a vast economic impact on our city. She’s also leading plans for $282 million in improvements in the Arena District, including a new amphitheatre.

Nominations remain open, and we’ll be spotlighting some of your picks throughout the month — so, keep them coming.

The Wrap

Every time I open Facebook, I see someone in a local group asking about soft-serve margaritas. It’s the latest TikTok trend, and it seems they’re hard to find. I finally found a local-ish spot that’s teasing them: Catrina’s Cocktails & Grill in Powdersville. Know of another spot swirling out this trend? Reply to this email and let me know.
