⭐ Get your gold star

The program has certified 500+ Certified Tourism Ambassadors. | Photo by VisitGreenvilleSC
87+. That’s how many of you became Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTAs) after we first told you about the program in the spring.

To earn your gold-star pin, you have to:
  • Complete a required reading assignment
  • Attend a half-day classroom session
  • Pass an open-book certification exam (don’t stress, it’s open book)
It costs $25 for your class and $20 to renew your membership.

The perks

My favorite part of being a CTA is the doors it has opened to unique opportunities to see Greenville through a different lens:
  • My tour of the Duke’s Mayo factory was an event exclusive to CTAs.
  • My look behind-the-scenes of Boo in the Zoo was a CTA experience.
  • Other events include a preview of Holiday at Peace, a chat with Mayor Knox White, and a tour (and tasting) at Six & Twenty.
  • CTAs can also volunteer with VisitGreenvilleSC to support events.
Classes are now open for 2026, and the January session is already full.

Travel and Outdoors

🚂 All aboard

How to ride Amtrak in Greenville was our most-clicked article to round out the year.

Are you looking to avoid the airport this Thanksgiving? Train travel is booming. A 2025 study found that 31% of 11,000 people worldwide anticipate relying more on rail transportation in the future.

In the last year, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has set an all-time ridership record, serving 32.8 million customers, and in 2024, Greenville’s station served 9,013.

The more sustainable, often scenic, and middle seat-less cousin to flying, train travel could play a part in your next vacation — here’s how to do it locally.

If you’re leaving from Greenville’s station, you’ll be riding on the Crescent with service from New York to New Orleans.
