News Notes

Coming Soon

Trade Street Social, opening soon in Downtown Greer, is putting the final touches on its 6,000-sqft space, which features three golf simulators, a casual kitchen, and a bar. The menu features snack foods like flat breads, shrimp tacos, and Bavarian pretzels, perfect for one-hour simulator sessions. (Upstate Business Journal)

Civic

Greenville County Council introduced a $488.5 million fiscal year 2025-2026 budget. It shifts more revenue from fee-in-lieu-of-tax deals toward road maintenance, sparking concern from schools and fire districts that are already budgeting under the old formula. Now, they’re proposing a phased approach with amendments for the June 3 public hearing. (Greenville Journal)

Development

Greenville County Council also just closed a potential loophole in zoning rules for Paris Mountain. The change removes language that previously allowed development if a project could bypass Altamont Road, tightening protections for this natural area. This comes after the Inn at Altamont development stalled recently. (Greenville Journal)

Greenvillian

Poet Glenis Redmond, Greenville’s first poet laureate, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto — SC’s highest civilian honor — during a ceremony at Unity Park this week. The recognition caps decades of literary work, including founding the Greenville Poetry Slam and mentoring young writers statewide. (Greenville Journal)
Though the Harambe Memorial Bridge didn’t stick, the 3K Harambe Memorial Fun Run honoring the late gorilla will take place at Bridgeway Station next Wednesday, May 28, at 7 p.m.

Outdoors

This is lit. Greenville has the Mice on Main, Travelers Rest has the rabbits on the trail, and now Fountain Inn has fireflies on the Woodside Connector Trail. These new additions are especially unique because they were sculpted by Fountain Inn Elementary’s 5th-grade students.

Real Estate

We recently visited Longview Carolina, a gated “agrihood” in Easley, SC, where nature meets convenience. From a working farm and miles of trails to the panoramic mountain views, you’ll have to see it to believe it.*

Community

Ready, set, ride. iCan Bike is an inspiring camp hosted by the Eastside Family YMCA that helps individuals with disabilities experience the thrill of riding a bike. Camp runs from Monday, June 23 to Friday, June 27. Learn more + register (there are limited spots available).*

Network

New to Greenville? A coworking space like Endeavor makes it easy to grow your network. With a prime downtown location and curated events, it’s where local professionals meet, work, and connect. Here are five ways to get plugged into Greenville’s business scene — and how Endeavor can help.*

Number

$4,000. That’s how much an ounce of gold is expected to cost in 2026. And since gold thrives in unstable markets, its rally appears far from over. Check out gold IRAs, which let you own physical gold while taking advantage of IRA tax breaks.*

A rare catalog home just hit the market

A piece of Greenville real estate history hit the market last week. Reader Robin B., who we featured five years ago in an article about Sears Roebuck homes, announced her home at 222 E. Park Ave. near downtown is on the market.

“I heard Ashmore models are harder to find in the US, as they were not built as often as the other models,” Robin shared in the I live in a Sears, Roebuck Catalog Home Facebook group. “We hope the new owners will love it as much as we have enjoyed it for the last 20 years.”

The home was built in 1925 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was also recognized by the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors with the Residential Revitalization Award after it was completely restored and renovated.

The Wrap

I had a chance to taste the affogato with Biscoff ice cream at the new Dumont Creamery & Cafe on Woodruff Road. A big shoutout to Kidding Around Greenville + Greenville Journal’s Tiare Solís for the recommendation. It lives up to their hype.
