City Editor Danielle here. During the cold snap — which seems to have returned — when my heat happened to be broken at home,I set out on a mission to find the best cup of hot chocolate in Greenville.
Out of all the cups I tried — and I tried a lot — these were my favorites:
LaRue’s coca was more like drinking melted chocolate, and the best part? Everything from the chocolate to the massive marshmallow was made in-house by LaRue’s chocolatier.
Located near Capri’s on Pelham Road, the hot chocolate at Dolce Italy is served at a family-owned Italian bakery run by Luigi and his mother — who stocks the pastry cases with her must-try cookies.

We think the marker should go next to its recognition as a 2023 Heritage Tree. | Photo by GVLtoday
The votes are in for the Greenville historical markers contest. Check out the finalists below, including the contest winner decided by your votes.
Winner
Medusa Tree | We have a winner — 47% of you think the Medusa Tree deserves a historical marker. The almost 90-year-old American beech tree with exposed roots makes it a popular photo spot in our city.
“It is believed that the tree was originally planted in the Furman University arboretum in 1933,” the Greenville Journal writes. "...The Greenville Garden Club created the arboretum using $500 it received from a Better Homes and Gardens contest.”
A cute custom gift under $20 — we like this custom name necklace and this minimalist personalized wallet. Personalize it just for them and watch their face light up when they open it. You’re so thoughtful.
Have you tried the chicken salad at the new Spinx Market yet? The sandwich has been my favorite thing to grab out of the cold case since it opened, and now I’m excited to see tubs of the chicken salad available for just $5. It’s made with the Spinx tenders which is why it’s so clucking good.
