Is there sugar in syrup? | Photo by GVLtoday
City Editor Danielle here. When I heard Tavola was serving up Buddy the Elf’s spaghetti topped with maple syrup, M&Ms, marshmallows, and crumbled Pop Tarts, I passed through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, past the sea of swirly-twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel to get to Bridgeway Station for a taste.

Tavola will also have a chocolate fettuccine on the menu.

Straight from the screen and on to your plate, you’ll find this and other specials (like “The Grinch’s” roast beef feast) among the dishes, drinks + desserts at Table 301 restaurants this holiday season.

The popular Greenville hospitality group featuring Soby’s, The Nose Dive, The Lazy Goat, The Jones Oyster Co., CAMP, and Tavola is starting a new tradition with specials inspired by your favorite holiday films. Pro tip: Click the link on each restaurant’s name to follow its Instagram as they unveil the specials in the coming days.

Asked

Do the South Carolina Gamecocks deserve to be in the College Football Playoff?

The Clemson Tigers can clinch a spot in the playoff with a win over SMU in the ACC Championship Game tonight at 8 p.m., but the Gamecocks are at the mercy of “the committee.” Currently, they’re two spots back from making it into the 12-team playoff, sitting at No. 14.
Should they be in?

Mocha mousse. That’s Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year, which was selected through global research and analysis to reflect “our desire for comfort” and “the indulgence of simple pleasures.” See if you can spy any mocha mousse shades in these murals around Greenville.

The Word

Oxford University Press announced its pick for Word of the Year — “brain rot.” Other finalists included “lore,” “dynamic pricing,” and “slop.” Counter the brain rot by touching grass at a local park or heading to one of these 10+ museums in Greenville. (Time Magazine)

Travel

Southwest fliers should get their ginger ale while they can. This week the airline began to end its cabin service earlier — at an altitude of 18,000 ft — to reduce injuries. It’s all good — there are plenty of food and drink options at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport before you board. (Fast Company)

The Wrap

If you’re looking for a holiday road trip, might I suggest Murrells Inlet for a visit to Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens? It’s one of my favorite holiday traditions in SC, and I’m also a big fan of walks at Huntington Beach State Park in the winter (when it’s empty). It’s the best time to find sand dollars, in my experience. We have a full guide for road tripping to Pawleys Island, if you need even more recommendations.
